Royalties- Plaids were first originated from the Scottish Highlands but it is the portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart which gave definition to plaid shirts among royalties. In the portrait he wears a plaid shirt and trousers known to be presented to him by the Duke of Perth.

Hollywood 1950s- Plaid button-ups stepped in to Hollywood in the early 1950s. In 1951, the feminine icon, Elizabeth Taylor kept her style polished with a plaid shirt in one of the scenes from the movie A Place In the Sun. Again in 1954, acting in the movie Sabrina, Audrey Hepburn sported a plaid shirt with shorts characterizing her sailing outfit. Not only did this stop with Hepburn but band stars like John Fogerty sported the trend it even more popular during the ‘90s grunge fashion.

Limelight 2009- These button-ups stole the talks when Sandra Bullock posed with it for the cover page of Glamour. From then on, it was the wardrobe staple in every woman’s wardrobe!
